Documentation of the "BOOP Experience" continues. With folks "looking over my shoulder" I'm a bit self-conscious. So much to round up and say. So, I'm using lists today. Details to follow.

Which reminds me of my one of my favorite Jewish jokes: What's the classic Jewish telegram? "Start Worrying Now. Details Follow"

Lists & Background:

Since April 29th, I've been to the

  1. hospital (for a week)
  2. pulmonologist
  3. an internist
  4. a pathologist, I think, for a follow up visit
  5. a second pulmonologist (when mine was on vacation), and
  6. a nutritionist. (The last, at the suggest of JudithP to counterbalance the chemical meds. Thank you Judith for the encouragement!)

In the Hospital (May 1-May 8), I was Seen by

  1. the pulmonologist, Dr. A
  2. the infectious diseases doctor
  3. pulmonologists, Dr. P, Dr. L
  4. A testy resident
  5. a lot of great nurses and nurses aides
  6. A doctor who did a biopsy on me
  7. the head of pulmonology, Dr. R, and a retinue that trailed after him, reviewing the results of my biopsy

In the Hospital I Had

  1. 10 hours in the emergency room waiting for a bed on a Friday night
  2. oxygen administered
  3. albuterol treatments
  4. pills, not always sure what
  5. leg massagers
  6. TV and telephone
  7. CT scans
  8. a surgical biopsy
  9. morphine drip
  10. shots, not always sure what
  11. a misdiagnosis of tuberculosis resulting in a private room and bathroom, folks coming in with duck masks (I still don't know what Dr.P looks like from the nose down), spitting in a cup -- last cup lost and had to redo thus prolonging isolation -- and a whole lot of frustration. On the other hand, hey, a private room.
  12. A lot of wonderful friends, family and the rabbi & family coming to see me, bringing flowers and offering support (even making time for me while our community dealt with a heartbreaking tragedy)

Food I asked for in the Hospital

  1. Kosher food, no soy products

Food I received in the Hospital from Staff

  1. Non-kosher food
  2. Kosher food
  3. Kosher food with soy products
  4. kosher food with soy products

The List of Meds I received When I Left the Hospital

  1. Clindamycin , 300Mg, 2/3x a day
  2. Azithromycin, 500mg, 1x a day
  3. Prednisone, 20 mg, initially 2 a day, upped to 3, 1x a day
  4. Metoprolol, 25 mg, 2, 1x a day
  5. Nexium, but Oxford would only approve Oemeprazole, 20 mg, 1x a day
  6. Albuterol Inhalation solution, 4x a day, every six hours.

Dr. A's List (Internist) to Support the Above

  1. Acidopholus
  2. 2 tablets Pepto Bismol, 2x a day
  3. TUMS EX 2-3 a day

The Nutritionist's List

I can't do CK justice by just making a list of her recommendations. I will write about this in the next post.
